Veronique Mackenzie brings us her extremely charming one woman clowny dance performance art show You, Me and One Piece of Chalk<\/em> as part of the Atlantic Fringe Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A story about growing older, feeling good about ourselves, embracing realistic expectations while still daring to break free of being boxed in and to find joy, You, Me and One Piece of Chalk<\/em> is a beautifully creative and playful exploration of what is possible.<\/p>\n

As she literally strips the layers away, like peeling an onion, we all begin to confront self consciousness and bravery and the massive responsibility that we have been entrusted with in our bodies. How do we choose to use our bodies and how do we choose to feel about ourselves? Mackenzie dances. She gives us a bit of a pastiche of ballet, modern and musical theatre and I could have watched this aspect of the show for far longer.<\/p>\n

She has chalk and draws and writes with it all over herself and the stage, creating her world and bringing her ideas and her best qualities to immediacy like Harold draws his whole world in Harold and the Purple Crayon<\/em>. She has complete control. She is mapping out the story and there is something beautifully empowering about that.<\/p>\n
