Morro and Jasp Do Puberty, <\/i>which plays at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace through July 11th, 2015 as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival<\/a>, is guaranteed to send audiences out into the world with joyful hearts and sore bellies from laughing. <\/span><\/p>\n

The play begins with Morro, the younger of the clown sisters, grappling with all the terrifying logistics of her first period, combined with the awkwardness of her friend from soccer baseball suddenly revealing that he has feelings for her. Jasp, on the other hand, is living deep down in emotional angst and vivid fantasy, anxious to snag the attention of the most popular boy at school before the school dance and still waiting to officially become a woman. With hormones high the sisters are more at odds with one another than ever, stumbling, both accidentally and on purpose, into each other\u2019s private humiliations, thwarting each other\u2019s telephone conversations and competing with one another for popularity and maturity. Yet, when push comes to toxic shock syndrome, the young clowns prove, hilariously and wholeheartedly, that blood is thicker than bleeding from the crotch. <\/span><\/p>\n

Amy Lee and Heather Marie Annis have harnessed all the awkwardness from Junior High and combined it with all the endearing, adorable, comedic exuberance of their beloved Morro and Jasp, to create a story that resonates, perhaps a little too ardently, with anyone who has ever experienced the joys of puberty. Lee\u2019s Jasp, methodical and idealistic, captures beautifully the heartache that comes from feeling overlooked and excluded, while Annis\u2019 Morro oscillates between the naivety of youth and the rebellion that comes from protecting one\u2019s heart against that exclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perfectly hilarious, perfectly poignant, perfectly gross, and perfectly adorable Morro and Jasp Do Puberty<\/em> is the MUST SEE<\/strong> Show of the 2015 Fringe Festival. These clown sisters will endear themselves deep into your hearts and stay there forever.<\/span><\/p>\n
