Dartmouthian multidisciplinary artist Stewart Legere, with Music Producer Waants, has released a new Pop single “You Won’t Be Punished for the Lie,” available wherever you get your music, and just in time for Pride.

The song is originally from the 2022 performance broken/sometimes repaired, created by Legere for The Theatre Centre’s “Hybrid by Design” in Toronto.

I have been listening to the song on repeat today. It’s a mediation on letting go, moving on, holding on, in relationships. The catchy hook of the song says, “you won’t be punished for the lie/ and why bother?” Here, Legere lingers for a moment, allowing you to contemplate the question for yourself; or perhaps you might choose to dance along instead. Or both.

Legere’s gorgeous smooth voice beautifully mirrors the poetics of the lyrics, such as this lovely line “and the rhythm of all your light spills out in the field again.”

Along with being a singer-songwriter and actor, Legere is also an Associate Artistic Director at Zuppa Theatre, and a member of The Heavy Blinkers.
